The two-alarm fire happened at a three-story commercial building on historic Auburn Avenue.

Atlanta Fire Rescue said the firefighter fell from the second floor to the first while battling the blaze. He fell through a hole.

The firefighter was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital alert, conscious and breathing.

No other injuries were reported, and no one was inside the building when the fire broke out. The Atlanta Streetcar was shut down beginning at 10 a.m. because the tracks are right in front of the fire scene.

"This was a stubborn fire, primarily because this was an older building.  We had more than 60 firefighters on the scene," said Atlanta Fire Sgt. Cortez Stafford.
