Atlanta councilman flooded with emails over Stone Mountain

Many people don't like Atlanta City Councilman Michael Bond's idea that the Stone Mountain memorial be changed and they are making their opinions heard by way of emails to his office.

The councilman is disturbed by one of those emails. It contains a racial reference as well as ugly threats against the veteran lawmaker and his family.

Citizens mostly are telling the local lawmaker to stay out of the state's business. Stone Mountain, where the faces of three civil war figures are carved into the rock, is a state owned facility.

Bond pushed through a piece of city legislation requesting the governor to appoint a study group to look at adding other historic Georgia figures such as President Jimmy Carter and Martin Luther King Jr.

Yet some, who have written the councilman, apparently believe he wants to sandblast the confederate notables from the rock.

The councilman forwarded the email which threatened violence to the authorities.
