Athens resident wins $1M on Georgia Lottery scratcher

An Athens resident has claimed a $1 million top prize from a Georgia Lottery scratch-off game, officials announced Friday.

What we know:

The winning ticket was purchased at a Citgo Food Mart on Monroe Highway in Winder. The player claimed the prize on April 2 and chose a lump sum cash option of $809,000.

The ticket was part of the "50X The Money" scratch-off game offered by the Georgia Lottery.

Lottery officials also announced other recent winners across the state. One player won a $97,268 jackpot playing a Quick Win game at a QuikTrip on Buford Highway in Atlanta, while a Rome resident won $10,000 through a Diggi Game on the Georgia Lottery mobile app.

Proceeds from Georgia Lottery games support education programs across the state, including the HOPE Scholarship and Pre-K programs.
