Assistant principal charged with sexually assaulting student

SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) - A Savannah High School assistant principal has been arrested on a charge of sexually assaulting a 16-year-old student.

The Savannah Morning News reports that 43-year-old Marvin Johnson turned himself in to police Monday. He's charged with sexual assault by persons with supervisory or disciplinary authority.

Savannah-Chatham Police spokeswoman Hillary Nielsen says the assault took place off-campus at the end of January, and was reported May 1.

The Special Victims Unit continues to investigate.

It's unclear if Johnson has a lawyer.
