Arrest in Fatal Hit and Run
ATLANTA - Police said they have man an arrest in a deadly hit and run that claimed the life of a DeKalb County woman early Wednesday morning.
Tracy Mitchell was booked into the DeKalb County Jail charged with felony Homicide by Vehicle, Reckless Driving, and two counts of Hit and Run.
It happened on Arizona Avenue in northeast Atlanta around 1:30 a.m. Atlanta Police said while there were no direct witnesses; a security camera captured the whole incident. Police said Mitchell was seen getting into an argument with the victim, identified by police only as a woman in her 30s. Police said the video shows the woman was then pushed out of the car before the driver accelerated in reverse, knocking the woman to the ground, running her over, and then fleeing the scene. Andre Brookins is an Atlanta chef who said he is very close friends with the victim. Brookins returned to the scene to place a rose in the roadway in the woman's memory.
"Just devastated. She is a really great person. She had become a really close friend of mine over the past couple of months," Brookins said. "We recently did an event. She loved food, photography and art."
Police have not yet released the name of the woman killed in the incident.
