Are some Florida beaches really closed?

The FOX 5 Storm Team has been fielding a lot of inquiries about reports of the beaches being closed along the Florida panhandle. This is not the case.

According to the Florida Department of Health, there are eight areas of concern near Destin and Fort Walton Beach. The latest reports from officials show high concentrations of fecal bacteria near Miramar Beach and Blue Mountain Beach in Walton County as well as East Pass and Henderson Beach in Okaloosa County. These are the only beaches currently closed for swimming.

There are other areas of “no swimming” along the Choctawhatchee Bay. The rest of the Florida panhandle from Panama City to Pensacola remains open with no advisories or concerns.
