APD releases dashcam video of June 2015 traffic stop, begins internal investigation

The Austin Police Department has started an internal investigation into the actions of a police officer during a traffic stop that led to the arrest of a black woman in June 2015. APD released dash cam video of the incident during a press conference on Thursday.

According to court documents, 25-year-old Breaion King was pulled over on E Riverside Drive during June of 2015 for speeding. King pulled into a Wendy's parking lot and began to walk away from her vehicle. The police officer approached her and asked to see her driver's license.

According to sources, King began to resist a search by the officer so she was pulled out of her vehicle and "violently" thrown to the ground. In the dashcam video, one of the officers throws King to the ground multiple times.

During a press conference, Chief Acevedo said he had only learned of the incident earlier this week. He went on to say he was 'sickened and saddened' by the actions of his officers. Acevedo says 'multiple' investigations have begun.
