Accused shooter released on bond, woman terrified
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - A mother shot in the stomach tells FOX 5 she's terrified after a court granted bond to the man prosecutors said shot her.
"Who's there for the victim? Who protects them?" the woman said and asked FOX 5 not to share her name or face.
"I got to get out of here, somewhere safe, I can't be found," she said.
She's worried the man could come back and harm her and her children.
Rick Foster, 30, was charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery and burglary after court documents state he broke into her home and shot her.
Friday, the district attorney's office said Foster was granted a $50,000 bond, ordered to wear an ankle monitor and stay under house arrest, and ordered to not go near the victim.
The ordeal happened around 3 a.m. on January 18. Court documents allege Foster broke into her home through a child's bedroom and shot the woman and himself in the hand. The victim was struck in the stomach and rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital.
The victim said she spent close to a week in the hospital. She returned home to recover on bedrest; the bullet is still stuck in her back.
"I was failed by the justice system. It's not fair," she said.
