Abandoned baby found inside closet, mother questioned
ATLANTA (AP) — Atlanta police are investigating why a newborn was left in a hamper inside a closet of a home where a person was being evicted from.
Atlanta Police Special Victim's Unit Commander LeAnne Browning said at a news conference that Fulton County marshals found the baby Monday afternoon while evicting someone from a home.
The child's mother arrived at the scene about an hour later and was taken in for questioning.
Browning says the mother told police she was staying at the home and left the child there while she ran some errands. No charges were immediately filed.
The infant was taken to a nearby hospital. It is unclear how old the baby is or whether the infant suffered any injuries.
