FOX 5 Storm Team Chief Meteorologist David Chandley said a nice day is on tap Wednesday with mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the 70s, but that will change overnight.

Two waves of rain and storms will roll into Georgia on Thursday. The first is expected early in the morning and is expected to stick around through lunchtime. The second wave rolls in late Thursday night.

Chandley said to expect heavy rain at times with totals over 2 inches total by Friday morning in many areas.

There is a slight risk of severe storm in the state, mainly south and southwest of Atlanta. These storms would be capable of damaging winds of more than 60 mph, hail and heavy rain. Lightning will be an issue, too.

The FOX 5 Storm Team will continue to refine this forecast as the week progresses.
