911 dispatcher helps Snellville dad deliver baby

A 911 dispatcher went above and beyond the call of duty last month for one metro Atlanta family.

911 Communications Officer Brandy Britton answered an emergency call from a man to report that the mother of his child was in labor.

Sensing the urgency of the situation, Officer Britton aided the man using the emergency medical dispatch system to assist in the labor and delivery of the baby.

A few minutes later… baby “Caleb” arrived!

The new mother and baby were transported to a nearby hospital after the Gwinnett County Fire Department arrived on the scene.

Officer Britton has assisted with four emergency calls of women in labor, but none had been delivered prior to an ambulance arrival.  This marks Officer Britton’s first childbirth delivery as a Communications Officer.

To celebrate Childbirth Deliveries, supervisors in the 911 Center post the names of employees who assist in delivering babies on a plaque. Britton’s name is expected to appear on the newest plaque.

From all of us at FOX 5, great work Officer Britton!
