Officials released the dramatic 911 calls a day after an officer-involved shooting in Gwinnett County.

Gwinnett County Police officials said an officer fired at a 16-year-old suspect after he would not drop the knife he held.

"The officer gave numerous commands for the suspect to drop the knife. However, the individual kept advancing towards the officer," said Corporal Deon Washington.

The ordeal happened before 4 p.m. at the Sugar Mill Apartments in Lawrenceville, as officers responded to a domestic dispute. Officers said the teenager was involved in the dispute.

"The officer himself created a substantial amount of distance, but the suspect closed that distance as well," Washington said.

"I heard someone yelling. I heard don't shoot and then I heard shots," said a witness who didn't want to be named.

Police could not say where the teenager was transported for medical care and his condition.

The GBI has taken over the investigation.
