7-year-old boy accidentally shoots self in leg in NW Atlanta, police say

ATLANTA - A 7-year-old boy is recovering after accidentally shooting himself in the leg in northwest Atlanta on Monday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. in the 1900 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive NW, according to Atlanta police.

Investigators believe the child gained access to an unsecured firearm inside the home.

Authorities have not released details about who owns the weapon or how the child was able to reach it.

The boy was transported to a local hospital for treatment. His condition has not been disclosed, but officials say he is expected to recover.
