A California high school discovered an unbelievable blast from the past after it began some major renovations.

As crews were demolishing the Herbert Hoover High School's old main office building administrators found a 40-year-old time capsule in the base of one of the granite cornerstones.

It was left behind by the class of 1978.

Inside, there were old pictures, memorabilia, and a signed ball from school alumnus and baseball legend Ted Williams.

Williams also wrote a letter encouraging kids to take their education seriously.

It also had letters from President Gerald Ford.

"Absolutely no idea. Surprised all of us," Principal Jason Babineau said.

He says the plan now is to preserve the treasures for current students to see.
