2 missing Georgia children found; mother, stepfather jailed

NEWNAN, Ga. (AP) — Two missing children have been found after an Amber Alert was issued in south Georgia.

News outlets report that the children's 32-year-old mother Mallory Johnson and 52-year-old stepfather Steve Johnson were arrested Wednesday night and charged with two counts of kidnapping.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that 2-year-old Stevie Hepnes and 10-month-old Steven Griffin were both abducted from Leesburg, a town about 80 miles southeast of Columbus. They were later found in Coweta County.

The two suspects did not have custody of the children, who are back in state custody.

It is unclear whether the suspects have attorneys.
