15 sentenced in stolen check ring

Fifteen people from metro Atlanta have been sentenced for their part in a stolen U.S. Treasury check ring.

According to the U.S. Attorney, the group stole more than $10 million over four years.

Stolen checks included tax refunds, social security, and veterans’ checks.

The group then used fake IDs and stolen social security numbers to cash them at Walmart and Kroger stores across the country.

Their sentences range from two to ten years in prison.
