1 dead in trench collapse in Carroll County

CARROLL COUNTY, Ga. - A man is dead after Carroll County police said a trench collapsed on top of him.

Investigators said a member of the construction crew was doing utility work in the trench earlier Monday, when the ground around him caved.

Emergency crews from Carroll, Haralson, and Douglas counties rushed to the scene on Buncombe Road, but realized it was too late.

Investigators said they have identified the victim, but will not release a name until the family is properly notified.
