Spring Break Adventures: Living the 'Island Life' at Tennessee Aquarium

It’s Spring Break Adventures Week on Good Day Atlanta — and what better place to spend Spring Break than on an exotic island filled with fascinating wildlife? And no, don’t worry — we’re not suggesting you shell out hundreds of dollars to fly your family somewhere off the coast. All you need to do is drive about two hours north of Atlanta.

Friday morning, the Good Day Atlanta feature team took a trip to Chattanooga to check out the new Island Life gallery at Tennessee Aquarium. The new addition just opened this month, and celebrates the diversity of life that can found on and around islands throughout the world. That includes Vancouver Island, which provides the major focal point of the gallery: a huge tank that brings the rough and rocky coastline of the Pacific Northwest to Chattanooga, complete with crashing waves and colorful starfish.

There are also tanks dedicated to Madagascar and the Indo-Pacific, and a “highlight” for many visitors will be seeing the Split Fin Flashlight Fish, which live up to their name through incredible luminescence.

The new Island Life gallery is included with admission to the Tennessee Aquarium, which costs $34.95 for adults and $21.95 for children ages three to 12. Aquarium hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily.
