North Georgia band spends summer camp prepping for Macy's parade

It’s the opportunity of a lifetime for the young men and women of the Woodland High School Band — later this year, the band members from Cartersville will travel to New York to perform during the 2018 Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.  And to get ready to play for millions of viewers, the student musicians are working hard during their two weeks of summer band camp, happening now.

Good Day Atlanta’s Paul Milliken spent the morning at Woodland High School in Cartersville, chatting with Director of Bands Eric Willoughby and the band members who are preparing for a busy football season and the upcoming trip to New York.

Woodland is one of only seven high schools selected to perform during this year’s Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, which will be broadcast live across the country on Thursday, November 22.  This year’s band camp runs from Monday, July 16 through Friday, July 27, with camp starting at 8:30 a.m. each morning.  Of course, rehearsals for the parade performance will continue straight through November, when the band will travel to New York to play and, of course, stick around for some sightseeing.
