ATLANTA - Georgia’s Only “Theatre On Ice” Team Skates To National Competition :

It’s a unique style of figure skating that combines sport, theatre, and dance -- and some talented local skaters are hoping to skate away with top honors at the upcoming 9th Annual National Theatre On Ice Competition.

Theatre on Ice (known as Ballet On Ice in Europe) is a team sport, with skaters focusing on dramatic storytelling skills during their programs.  Atlanta Phoenix Ice Theatre is the only Theatre on Ice team in Georgia, and features young ladies between the ages of seven and 18.  The team is preparing to skate in the National Theatre on Ice Competition in Birmingham from June 30-July 3, at which they will perform a Choreographic Exercise (this year’s theme is “Wind”) and a Free Skate.  

Good Day Atlanta’s Paul Milliken spent the morning at the Ice Forum in Duluth, learning more about this unique sport with the talented young ladies of Atlanta Phoenix Ice Theatre.
