Final drum roll for longtime Gwinnett County music teacher
GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. - There's something about creating a mood through music that's captivated John LaMattina for most of his life.
Especially the drums.
"If there's no music in the room, it ain't right," declared the Norton Elementary music teacher.
He and his fifth grade students participated in a school drum program Thursday evening. It was the last one at the school LaMattina will conduct. He is retiring from instruction at the end of this school year, after 28 years.
"We started with some drum pads and set. We now have powerpoint and lights. It's been my baby for all these years," explained LaMattina.
Earlier this week, FOX 5's Kaitlyn Pratt asked him what he expected from Thursday night's last performance.
"Goosebumps. Thanks for the memories," he added.
