Broadway's 'Waitress' serves up plenty of heart in Atlanta

First it was an acclaimed film starring Keri Russell, then it was a Broadway blockbuster starring Jessie Mueller.  Now, the heartfelt and inspiring story of Waitress is settling into Atlanta’s Fox Theatre for a delicious eight-performance run.

The national tour of Waitress is taking the Fox Theatre stage from Tuesday, February 5th through Sunday, February 10th, as part of the 2018-2019 Broadway in Atlanta season.  Based on the 2007 film written and directed by Adrienne Shelly, Waitress tells the story of Jenna, a small-town waitress with dreams of winning a pie contest.

The musical’s songs were composed by Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Sara Bareilles, known for hit songs including “Love Song” and “Brave,” and the original Broadway production netted four Tony Award nominations and six Drama Desk nominations (winning one).

Along with stars Christine Dwyer (as Jenna) and Richard Kline (known to TV audiences around the world as Larry on “Three’s Company”), two young local actresses are part of the musical’s Atlanta stop: Riley and Harper were chosen in open auditions to alternate the role of “Lulu” here at the Fox Theatre!

Good Day Atlanta’s Paul Milliken spent the morning at Buckhead's Southern Baked Pie Company with some of the Waitress cast members, learning more about the show and – most importantly – doing a little taste-testing!
