ATLANTA (FOX 5 Atlanta) - What do you get when you take a bestselling young adult novel and combine it with an award-winning filmmaker and two of the hottest rising stars in Hollywood? The answer can be found in movie theaters this weekend, when "The Sun Is Also a Star" opens nationwide.
Based on the 2016 book by Nicola Yoon, "The Sun Is Also a Star" is directed by Ry Russo-Young and stars Yara Shahidi (of TV’s “Black-ish” and “Grown-ish”) and Charles Melton (Reggie Mantle on “Riverdale”) as a young pair who fall for each other over the course of one very memorable day in New York City.
There’s romance, of course, but also plenty of conflict, as Shahidi’s Natasha is facing impending deportation with her family.
Good Day Atlanta recently got the chance to sit down with author Yoon and the film’s two stars, who both say they feel privileged to bring the beloved characters to life on the big screen.
