All 'Hail' America's Best Taxicab Driver
ATLANTA - Atlanta taxicab driver Anthony Sims is about to take a journey he never expected.
This Sunday, Sims is heading to Las Vegas, where he’ll accept an award naming him America’s Best Taxi Driver in front of a crowd of hundreds.
Sims was recently named the year’s top taxi driver by the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association, a nonprofit trade association established a century ago. Sims has been a cab driver in Atlanta for 30 years, working for the family-owned Checker Cab his entire career; he says he feels fortunate to do what he does, and says customer service has been the key to his success over the past three decades. He tells Good Day Atlanta’s Paul Milliken, “I feel blessed to be able to do what I'm doing and have my life the way I have my life, because of what I do for a living. So I enjoy this, and I wouldn't have it any other way."
Sims and his boss, Rick Hewatt, will attend the TLPA’s 100th Annual Convention & Trade Show at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, where Sims will collect his award on Monday. But before America’s best cab driver left for Las Vegas, Paul hopped in his cab to find out what makes him so special.
