AAA: Florence likely to cause increase in East Coast gas prices
PHILADELPHIA (WTXF) - Drivers up and down the East Coast can expect to pay more at the pump this week as Hurricane Florence continues its approach, according to AAA.
Earlier this week the national gas price average jumped up a penny to $2.85 per gallon.
With the storm expected to make landfall somewhere between South Carolina and Virginia, AAA says the storm will ‘likely’ have an impact on East Coast gas prices.
According to AAA spokesperson Jeanette Casselano, the increase in prices can be attributed in part to “an increase in fuel purchases in the market and a slowdown in retail demand.”

Casselano says the price increase should be brief, but could possibly dramatic.
