Opening statements begin in trial over Tupac Shakur’s murder
Opening statements have officially begun in the trial of 63-year-old Duane "Keffe D" Davis, the former gang leader accused of orchestrating the 1996 drive-by shooting that killed hip-hop icon Tupac Shakur in Las Vegas. A jury of six men and 10 women (including four alternates) was seated to hear the high-profile case. While prosecutors do not allege that Davis pulled the trigger, they maintain he acted as the "on-the-ground commander" who provided the murder weapon and ordered the attack in retaliation for a fight involving his nephew. Davis has pleaded not guilty, with his defense arguing that his previous admissions in interviews and his 2019 memoir were exaggerated for financial gain.
