KENNESAW, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - After a lackluster 3-1 loss in Costa Rica in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League Round of 16, Atlanta United came home to their world-famous supporters and showed Herediano of Costa Rica who the boss is!
Thursday night's match was played at Kennesaw State University in front of a packed house.
And Atlanta United got the fasted goal in its history, scored by no other than Josef Martinez. That was scored within the first minute of the match.
Coach Frank DeBoer could hardly contain himself!
In the 9th minute, Julian Gressel found the back of the net. This was feeling good right away.
In the 2nd-half, MLS MVP Josef Martinez was at it again and it hardly seemed fair. That made it 3-0 with the Five Strips dominating and celebrating as one big happy family.
Then Ezekiel Barco kicked the ball on goal and Leandro Gonzalez-Pirez was there, connecting with a header.
The final was 4-0 with Atlanta United moving on to the quarterfinals to face Monterrey.
