Woman trapped in Buckhead fire

ATLANTA - Officials have identified the woman killed during a 2-alarm apartment fire in Buckhead early Sunday morning.

It happened at the Pharr Manor Condos on Pharr Road early Sunday morning. The Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office said Rachel Thorn, 36, of Atlanta, died from injuries received during the fire.

Firefighters arrived at the apartment to find flames coming from the second floor and a woman trapped inside one of the units. Firefighters were able to pull her to safety and rush her to the hospital, where she later died. A second person was taken to the hospital for treatment. Fire officials said a dog also died in the fire.

Firefighters said a portion of the roof collapsed while they were fighting the blaze, prompting them to quickly evacuate.

Investigators are looking into the possibility that the fire may have started in a kitchen.
