Roswell police need the public’s help in searching for three masked attackers who investigators said ambushed a 67-year-old woman, beat and then kidnapped her. Police said one of the suspects is in custody.

It happened around 10 p.m. Wednesday night as the woman was leaving her business, Capetown Diamond Corporation on East Crossville Road in Roswell. Police said the suspects pistol whipped and bound the 67-year-old woman before kidnapping her. Surveillance video shows the four armed suspects were waiting for her outside the backdoor of the business.

“We were getting the info as it was happening because person inside the store was watching it unfold on the surveillance system that they had in place,” said Roswell Police Officer Lisa Holland.

Police said the person who called 911 was her son. Officers credit that call with allowing them to arrive within one minute, spotting the black van fleeing the scene and giving chase. The van crashed into a nearby tree. All four tried to make a run for it, but officers arrested one individual.

The incident sent shockwaves through the community.

“So, it’s a sad commentary on state of our society, especially beating up not only a woman but an elderly woman, that just sticks in my stomach,” said Rick Olson, who owns the business next door. “I do have people, ladies who work in office… office manager, daughter and staff, so I will counseling them to keep doors locked anytime they are here without staff.”

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to call the Roswell Police Department.
