Warrants issued for 3rd suspect in murders of Athens men

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Gwinnett County announced Wednesday they’ve obtained arrest warrants for a third suspect in connection with the murders of two Athens men whose bodies were found inside of a storage unit.

According to a Gwinnett Police news release, the lead detective has obtained two active warrants for 29-year-old Justin Jamal Davis of Snellville on charges of conspiracy to commit a crime.

At a news conference on March 19th, Gwinnett Police announced they had obtained warrants for two other men on the same charges, 32-year-old Robert Carlisle of Lithonia and 30-year-old Lesley Green.

Green is in custody in the Gwinnett County Jail, while Carlisle remains on the run.

Both Green and Carlisle each face two additional warrants of participating in criminal gang activity.

Police did not release Davis’ specific involvement in the crime.

The warrants follow the March 17 discovery of the bodies of Derrick Ruff and Joshua Lee Jackson inside a storage unit at the Extra Space Storage located on Lawrenceville Highway near Snellville.

Police believe both men were shot to death.

Jackson and Ruff, both 25, were last seen together on December 18, 2018, and had been missing ever since.

"They were very close friends described by family if you seen one, you seen the other, they was always together," Athens-Clarke County Police Captain Jerry Saulters told FOX 5's Deidra Dukes at the March 19 news conference. 

Investigators said they are trying to determine the link between the storage facility with the suspects and the victims. 

The murders appear to be gang-related, according to police. "As part of the larger investigation, we do foresee more charges with additional suspects", said Captain Saulters.
