The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Buford early Thursday morning that left a female suspect in serious condition Thursday.

Officials said the shooting involved a member of the Gwinnett County Police Department SWAT Team attempting to serve a high-risk arrest and search warrant.

The shooting occurred around 6:30 a.m. in the 2400 block of Buford Dam Road.

"People are there for short period, then they take off, it’s kind of inevitable what's going on," said one neighborhood resident who did not want to be identified.

According to authorities, multiple officers entered different areas of the home at the same time, and a female began shooting a gun at one of the SWAT officers.

"As soon as the SWAT team was breaching multiple locations inside the home, that's when a female suspect decided to discharge a firearm at least one of our SWAT officers. We know she fired at least two times to that SWAT officer and our officer returned fire shooting her multiple times," said Cpl. Michele Pihera, Gwinnett County Police Department.

A SWAT officer returned fire and struck the female twice, with one injury occurring in her torso, according to the Gwinnett County Police Department.

The officer was not hit by gunfire but did sustain a minor injury to his arm.

The suspect was transported to Gwinnett Medical Center with very serious injuries.

Officials said there were eight people inside of the home at the time of the shooting. Seven people are being questioned by police, but no arrests have been announced at this time.

"We need to interview them. Right now none are arrested but that could change," said Pihera.

Police said the woman involved in the shooting, is the woman they were there to arrest, but they have not yet released her name.

A copy of an arrest warrant, which was issued Tuesday night, was obtained Thursday by NewsRadio 106.7’s Christy Hutchings. The warrant states on the first five days of the month, the woman conspired to sell marijuana out of the home.
