Born in Gastonia, North Carolina, Duke University graduate, Sara Hiatt turned 99 on Friday at the Atria Senior Living Center in Marietta.

Sara graduated Duke in 1932 with a degree in Education.  Sara was a member of the sorority Kappa Alpha Theta and played intramural basketball before there was a women's team at Duke.  She is a huge basketball fan and stays up to watch the Blue Devils play every game!

“She is one of my most competitive residents with a fabulous sense of humor and love for life.  Her party is Duke Basketball inspired,” said Katie Barrentine, Engage Life Director at Artria Senior Living in Marietta, Georgia.

Members of the Walton High School Marching Band, cheerleaders and basketball players were in attendance. All of the residents sported Duke Blue tee shirts.  Twenty-seven family members (including grandchildren and five great grandchildren) were there to celebrate with Sara.  “We have surprise visits from Duke Alumni and former Duke Basketball players presenting gifts from Duke and Coach K.”

Happy Birthday Sara!
