Two men arrested in Cobb County motorcycle theft, officer hurt

Two men were arrested following a motorcycle theft in Cobb County on Monday.

Cobb County Police responded to the Extended Stay Deluxe on Interstate North Parkway just before 5 p.m. Monday. The 911 caller told responding officers a white truck with a trailer drove out of the parking lot with a motorcycle on the trailer.

The owner of the motorcycle was able to track the vehicle and gave the location to the officers. Police quickly responded to Dairy Queen on Cobb Parkway, where an officer saw the truck leaving the parking lot. The officer pulled over the vehicle, then three suspects got out of the truck and ran from the scene.

Two of the three suspects were arrested by responding officers. Gary Haney, 44, and Christian Lee Scott, 22, are both facing a number of charges, including theft by taking, obstruction of law enforcement, possession of burglary tools, among many others.

One of the officers who responded to the area was hurt during the pursuit. Officer C.L. McTier was stopping traffic, attempting to approach the truck, when he was hit by a vehicle. He was taken to Well Star Kennestone Hospital, where he was treated and later released. He suffered significant bruising and soreness, but he’s expected to make a full recovery, according to police.

A third suspect remains at large. Anyone with information is asked to call the police.
