Two children rescued at High Falls State Park face charges

The two children who were rescued Tuesday evening from the top of High Falls State Park in Monroe County have been charged with trespassing.

Emergency crews said the boy and girl were stuck on the river just below the dam. They were pulled from the middle of the river by helicopter after getting stuck on a rock.

Several agencies responded to help in the two-hour operation.

It took about two hours, but officials were able to get the children to safety.

At least one person was taken to the hospital.

As for the charges, the Monroe County Emergency Management Agency director said he's sick and tired of putting his first responders in danger for people who ignore the "no swimming" signs.
