Cobb County Police released the name late Monday morning of a woman who was killed along with a man in an early morning accident that seriously injured four children.

Police identified the driver killed in the accident as 27-year-old Katrina E. Morris of Powder Springs.

According to investigators, a green 1998 Honda Passport driven by Morris was traveling west on Clay Road approaching Flint Hill Road in Mableton when for some reason, she lost control of the vehicle and left the roadway, colliding with a tree on the northern shoulder.

Officers say Morris died at the scene.

Her male passenger who was sitting in the front seat was also pronounced dead at the scene.

By 10 a.m. Monday, police had not positively identified the man.

In a news release, police said all 4 juveniles in the back seat of the SUV were seriously injured.

Medics rushed the four children ranging in ages from 10 to infant to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Scottish Rite for treatment.

Mary Caughron who lives in the house where the accident happened told FOX 5’s Marc Teichner she heard what sounded like a motorcycle backfiring and then nothing else.

When Caughron came outside she found the wreckage.

Caughron heartbreakingly described the children crying, and the efforts to save them.  She also says nothing could be done for the adults.

Caughron has lived in the house for 45 years, and says she can't remember how many times drivers have taken out her mailbox. She also says there was another wreck around the corner where a vehicle hit a tree.

This collision remains under investigation, and anyone with information about it is asked to call to Cobb County Police S.T.E.P. (Selective Traffic Enforcement Program) Unit at 770-499-3987.
