Troup County Sheriff: Body of newborn found in cooler bag
TROUP COUNTY, Ga. (FOX 5 Atlanta) - Authorities are investigating after a newborn baby was found dead in Troup County.
According to the Troup County Sheriff's Office, the baby was found on Sunday along Boy Scout Road off New Franklin Road. The child was inside a portable cooler bag on the side of the road.
Witnesses told investigators the cooler had been on the side of the road near the woods for several days, possibly up to a week.
An autopsy on Tuesday revealed that the child was a full-term white girl with no signs of trauma and injury. Officials say the cause of death can not be determined at this time, though they are planning further drug testing.
Investigators are working to determine who the cooler belongs to. It's described as light blue in color with pictures of watermelon slices on the side. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Troup County Sheriff's Office at 706-883-1616 or Crime Stoppers at 706-812-1000.
