Three DeKalb County students involved in a fight were pepper sprayed by school safety officer, according to a statement from the DeKalb County School District.

Spokesperson Andre Riley said the incident occurred at Eagle Woods Academy in Lithonia on Wednesday.

Emergency personnel treated those exposed to the spray, and all have been medically cleared, Riley said. A student was transported to a local hospital as a precaution.

During the ordeal, the school was placed in a “safe and secured status.”

Riley said the three students involved will be disciplined according to the student code of conduct.

Parents will be notified of the incident via letter today, he said.

The school is located at 5931 Shadow Rock Drive.
