Over 1,000 homeless people in Atlanta enjoyed a pre-Thanksgiving Day feast at an event called "The Day Before."

The meals were served at the Our House Shelter and at the Metro Atlanta Task Force for the Homeless.

Three local companies teamed-up to create and coordinate this event including: Renewal Design-Build of Decatur, and Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q of Atlanta and Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q of Atlanta. Sysco Atlanta generously donated all 80 turkeys for the event. Additional funds raised will be used to purchase socks, hats and clothing for the homeless.

"It's a great feeling to help those in need," says David Michelson, President of Renewal Design-Build. "We are passionate about our commitment to our community, and we welcome opportunities to pitch in and help. It's been gratifying to see other companies so eager to join in and make this a bigger and better event. We also hope to raise awareness so more individuals and companies get involved and make a difference in our community."

And across town in a separate event, Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and rapper T.I. teamed up to deliver turkeys to 600 Atlanta families. The city said this year they focused on homes where grandparents are raising their grandchildren.
