SWAT team finds man dead inside home following standoff
NORCROSS, Ga. - Police in Gwinnett County said the SWAT team found a man, who was the subject of a day-long standoff with police, dead inside his Norcross-area home Thursday evening.
Gwinnett County Police said they were called out to Williamsburg Drive after receiving a report shortly after 9 a.m. regarding a man firing a gun in his yard. Police said they were not able to make contact and believed the man barricaded himself inside his home.
Officer evacuated several neighbors surrounding the home and a SWAT team was brought in to try to make contact with the man while police worked to secure a search warrant.
Just before 8 p.m., the SWAT team made entry into the home and found the man dead from an apparent self-inflect gunshot wound.
The name of the man has not yet been released.
Authorities were able to let residents back into the neighborhood shortly after 8 p.m.
