SWAT situation at DeKalb County apartments
FOX 5 cameras saw a bomb squad and SWAT officers responding at a apartment complex in the Stonecrest area of DeKalb County.
DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. - A man is in custody after a SWAT operation at a DeKalb County apartment complex early Thursday morning.
The incident happened at a complex on the 5100 block of Fairington Road in the Stonecrest area.
What we know:
DeKalb County police tell FOX 5 that officers were dispatched to the complex at 2:12 a.m. after receiving a 911 call from a girl who lived at the apartment.
According to authorities, the girl said that she was hiding in a bathroom after her mother's boyfriend unlawfully entered the home. The man, identified as 31-year-old Calvin Millbrooks, reportedly kept preventing the girl, her younger sibling, and her mother from leaving the apartment.
When officers got to the scene, they made contact with Millbrooks, who refused to let them in.
After hours of attempted negotiations, a SWAT team entered the home through a window and took Millbrooks into custody.
The victims were removed unharmed, officials say.
Investigators say Millbrooks had six active domestic violence-related warrants from previous incidents involving the woman and her children. He was out on bond for another offense connected with the family and had been ordered to have no contact as a condition of his release.
What we don't know:
Authorities have not said what charges Millbrooks will be facing in connection with the SWAT standoff.
What they're saying:
A resident of the apartment complex who didn't want to share his name said that he'd noticed police activity for days.
"I've seen police come back and forth every night - every night for the last three nights," he said. "I don't know who they were looking for, but they got him this morning."
The man said that he saw a SWAT team enter the apartment and take a man out of the building.
