Standoff ends at RV park; man dead of unknown causes
GULF SHORES, Ala. (AP) - A man was found dead in a motor home at a Gulf Shores RV park after a 7-hour standoff with police.
Alabama news outlets say the incident began Sunday around 9 p.m. when police responded to a call of a man trying to commit suicide. Responding officers noticed fire damage to an RV and said a man inside appeared to be armed.
SWAT team members entered the RV around 4 a.m. Monday and found the man dead. The cause of death was under investigation.
A neighbor of the victim told al.com (http://bit.ly/2rJr4qc) that he does not believe the man was armed. Nick Crawford said he called police after the victim set off an explosion in the RV, using a grill lighter and a gas stove.
