A potential SpaceX and Boost Mobile deal move would aid the Elon Musk-led company's plans to build a hybrid satellite-terrestrial mobile network through Starlink Mobile, combining its satellite constellation with ground-based infrastructure.

Reuters reported that acquiring Boost Mobile or accessing its network might give SpaceX a subscriber base and distribution platform to expedite its plans.

EchoStar had 7.38 million wireless subscribers at the end of the second quarter, made up of Boost Mobile and Gen Mobile customers.

In October, Musk spoke to EchoStar chairman Charlie Ergen. The Washington Post reported that a proposed service might require consent from AT&T and T-Mobile, as Boost Mobile's current network-leasing agreements might not be transferable to a new owner without the carriers' approval.

According to Reuters, industry experts have described challenges SpaceX may face in constructing a network that might become the fourth-largest wireless carrier in the United States.
