Two women riding in an Uber out of downtown Minneapolis were injured after someone fired shots into the back of the vehicle along Interstate 394.

Minneapolis police said at about 2:30 a.m., five women were in an Uber on their way home at I-394 at Dunwoody Boulevard when someone fired multiple shot at the vehicle. Uber is a popular taxi service that allows users to request and pay for a driver using a smartphone app.

The Uber driver continued westbound, unaware the car had been targeted. As it approached Penn Avenue, more shots were fired into the back of the vehicle, striking two of the women inside, one in the arm and one in the back. Both injuries were non-life-threatening and the victims were brought to Hennepin County Medical Center via ambulance.

Minneapolis police and Minnesota State Patrol officials shut down that section of 394 for a short period of time to gather evidence. The shooting remains under investigation.
