Shooting outside Georgia State MARTA Station
One person was killed outside the MARTA station located near Georgia State University and blocks away from the Georgia Capitol.
ATLANTA - A man was arrested after a deadly shooting in broad daylight less than a block from the Georgia State Capitol in Downtown Atlanta Tuesday afternoon.
The man died near the entrance to the GSU MARTA station on Jesse Hill Drive.
"It appears he was just sitting at the bench at the time of the incident," said Major Matthew Carrier, with the MARTA police.
Carrier said investigators believed they found the shooter.
"The suspect is in custody," Carrier said. "He’s being interviewed."

What we know about a shooting at the GSU MARTA station
There was a shooting at the Georgia State University MARTA Station on Halloween. MARTA Police confirm at least one person was killed. This is the second shooting reported near campus within the last two days.
It was the second deadly shooting on Georgia State’s campus in the last few days.
On Sunday morning, four people were shot, two of them GSU students.
After that, school administrators held a town hall meeting on Monday to address safety concerns.

Pledge to increase patrols around GSU after shooting
A woman is fighting to stay alive after she’s shot near the Georgia State University campus. She’s one of four people injured in that weekend shooting. Two of them are Georgia State students.
"Even for me as I’m in the city, I’m very mindful of where I’m located. I’m mindful of situations that may not be safe. So I really have impressed that upon them," said M. Brian Blake, GSU’s president, after the meeting. "But it’s our responsibility to make them feel safe, to make them be safe."
After another string of shootings near GSU earlier this year, the school vowed at the time to improve lighting, cameras, and call boxes.
The MARTA station on campus, however – falls in the jurisdiction of MARTA police.
Their investigators say they’re still trying to figure out what led up to the murder – in hopes of piecing together a motive.
"We have some witnesses, we took a few statements from the incident. We will have to review our video cameras and just determine everything that happened," Carrier said. "Still very early in the investigation."
