Some senior citizens wanted to let the Douglas County Sheriff's Office know just how much they are appreciated in the community.

Monday, residents at the Benton House senior living facility spent the morning baking cookies for deputies.

"We also made a sign for them, thanking them and letting them know how much we support them," said Activities Director Hannah Alcala. "And praying for their safety each and every day!"

Later in the day, they took the individually-wrapped cookies and delivered them to the Sheriff's Office.

"They were so appreciative," Alcala said. "All the residents were so thrilled to do something for them."

Alcala told FOX 5 the senior citizens want others to see that officers are out in the community fighting to keep everyone safe.

"They have loved ones as well, we pray they will get to see them at the end of every day!"
