Retired Atlanta Police Officer Christopher Brown is in desperate need of a kidney.

The 70-year-old grandfather has been on dialysis for four years because of his kidney disease, which he said has reached stage five. His current condition and lifestyle have made things very different from his days as an Atlanta Police officer. He told FOX 5 he worked 25 years on the force and spent an additional 15 years on reserve.

"Three days a week. That's half a day of my life on that [dialysis] machine, four hours each time," Brown stressed. "...I didn't ask anybody for help. I gave help. And still, at this point, I don't ask people."

Brown received the department's Medal of Valor in the nineties after saving two children from a burning house while he was off duty. He also spent several years as a detective in the APD Robbery Unit.

Brown has been with his wife, Sheila, for nearly 40 years. The two hope to celebrate their wedding anniversary this summer. They hope someone will give back to the man who has given so much to save others.

"I couldn't be where I am unless someone passed it on to me. Pass it...keep it going," Brown said.

His family is now asking for people to get tested to see if they could possible be an organ donation match for Brown. He has 'O' blood type. And his birthday is 10/24/48.
