Puppies found in dumpster being cared for by rescue group

AMERICUS, Ga. (AP) — The head of an animal rescue group says that a litter of puppies found in a trash dumpster in south Georgia are safe.

Lake Blackshear Rescue President Glenda Cannon said the puppies were healthy when someone found them in the dumpster.

Cannon said the woman was dumping her trash when she saw one of the puppies come out, and the others then followed one by one.

WALB-TV reports that the rescue group, in the small community of Cobb in Sumter County, took the puppies to a veterinarian and is trying to help find them a home.

Three dogs of the five dogs have been adopted so far.

Cannon said veterinarians think the puppies are a bloodhound-bird dog mix.
