Strong thunderstorms moved through parts of metro Atlanta Saturday evening, bringing heavy rain, high winds and lightning with them.

One storm cell moved slowly over Buckhead and parts of Cobb and north Fulton Counties. Several trees were brought down in the storm. One of those downed trees fell across Wieuca Road at N. Stratford Rd. in Buckhead. Radar estimates suggested that more than 1.5 inches of rain fell in parts of the area, including Smyrna and Vinings.

Authorities in Forsyth County also reported several downed trees as a result of storms on Saturday.

In Gwinnett County, firefighters say lightning struck a house on Emerald Lake Lane near Buford just after 3 p.m. Saturday, causing a fire. A neighbor saw smoke coming from the house and knocked on the door to alert the woman inside. She got out of the house safely. No one was hurt, but the home suffered significant damage to the roof and attic.
