Police: Woman kidnapped, fatally shot by husband's mistress

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. (AP) - Police in suburban Atlanta say a woman who was kidnapped by her husband's mistress was fatally shot after a pursuit into Alabama.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency spokesman Steve Jarrett said in an emailed statement that authorities in Georgia told law enforcement officials in Alabama about a pursuit along I-20 Thursday morning that involved an abduction.

Clayton County Police Officer Charlene Fraser says 49-year-old Sandra Barnett of Ellenwood, Georgia was abducted from her home Wednesday and the department distributed an advisory asking law enforcement to look out for a Dodge Durango.

The vehicle was seen in west Georgia Thursday and was chased into Alabama. Jarrett says the vehicle stopped on I-20 in Cleburne County, Alabama and the driver fatally shot the passenger and herself.

The driver's identity has not been released.
