A woman is shot after what police are calling a case of road rage. The woman was rushed to the hospital, while another woman was taken into custody.

The sound of gunfire, a crash, and a woman's screams jolted residents who live on Atherton Drive in DeKalb County awake Tuesday morning.

"I heard two shots, sounded like two gunshots. I could hear the car when it crashed into the tree over there," said Gregory Lumpkin who lives nearby.

Eric Mangham said he could hear the screams.

"There's a lady in the street saying I'm shot, help me, help me," said Mangham.

DeKalb County Police said that woman, who was driving a maroon Avenger, had been in an altercation with a man and woman who were driving a dark colored SUV. While both cars were heading down Atherton Drive near Glenwood, police said a woman in the SUV pulled out a gun and fired. The driver of the Avenger lost control of her car and crashed into a tree.

Mangham said he was walking toward the car to see if he could help when he saw the SUV race back down the street.

"They came back and they were yelling something at the lady who went off the road, and she was yelling 'Why did you shoot me? Why did you shoot me?’" said Mangham.

Police said the couple in the SUV drove about a half mile away to a gas station where they called 911. Police arrested the woman in the SUV, 23-year-old Alysa Paschal, and charged her with aggravated assault. Police said the woman who was driving the Avenger has non-life threatening injuries.
